Dig It!

I created a business based around dealing with the problem of food deserts. A food desert is an urban area in which it is difficult to buy affordable or good-quality fresh food. These neighborhoods often suffer from poverty and unemployment.

There are some really hard working non-profits and neighborhood gardens that are doing great work connecting people with fresh food. The problem is that these entities carry a large burden and often have to rely on volunteers. I want to be able to connect people with convenient healthy food options and also with employment in their own neighborhood.

The three products that Dig It! produces are fresh pressed juice which can be farmed and harvested right in the neighborhood, superfood clusters, which can be made from the leftovers from the juicing process and dried soup kits which can also be made from both the remains of the juicing process and from produce grown in the urban farms. All these products are both healthy but are also conveniently packaged to fit within corner stores and gas station systems —which are usually the only option in food desert neighborhoods.

The packaging and illustrations are all about uplifting the people. They show active and vibrant people working together and building a strong community.
